Cadillac was founded by Henry Leland on August 22, 1902 . Henry was a master mechanic and an entrepreneur, who named the company after his ancestor Antoine Laumet de Las Mothe, sieur de Cadillac. The companies first Cadillac was completed on October 1902.
Chevrolet 1930-1970

On December 3, 1911, the Chevrolet Company was founded by Swiss car racer and automotive engineer Louis Chevrolet in Detroit. William C. Durant, William Little, and Dr. Edwin R. were investors of the company. In 1912, R.S. McLaughlin GEO of General Motors of Canada also joined. This American brand vehicle was produced by General Motors and in 1918 General Motors acquired the company.
Chrysler 1930-1970

The Chrysler company was founded by Walter Chrysler on June 6, 1925,. The Maxwell Motor Company which was established in 1904, re-organized into the Chrysler corporation. In 1924, Walter Chrysler launched the first Chrysler automobile and it was well received by the public. In 1925 the Maxwell brand was dropped following the introduction of the Chrysler.

The Cord corporation was founded by E.L. Cord. Cord was manufactured by the Auburn Automobile company. In Connersville, Indiana, the brand name American automobile was manufactured from 1929 through 1932 and from 1936 and 1937.
DESOTO 1930-1961

On August 4, 19258, the Desoto Company was founded by Walter Chrysler. It was introduced in 1929. The company was named after the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. This brand was created to compete with General Motors, Studebaker, and Willys-Knight. The Desoto company broke the first-year sales record when it was introduced in 1929 and was not broken until 1960 by the Ford Falcon.
DODGE 1930-1961

In the 1900s, the Dodge brothers John Francis Dodge and Horace Elgin Dodge founded the Dodge Brothers Company. The company supplied parts and assemblies for Detroit’s growing auto industries. By the 1915, the company started to make its own vehicles and then the brand was sold to the Chrysler corporation in 1928.

On June 16, 1903, the Ford company was founded by Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan. On November 3, 1901, Henry Ford first attempted his own car company under his own name. On August 22,1902, after Ford gave up his rights to his name and became the Cadillac Motor company. In 1903, the Ford company was launched.

In 1919, Joseph B. Graham, Robert C. Graham, and Ray A. Graham started to produce manufacturing kits to modify Ford Model Ts and TTs into trucks. This eventually led the Graham brothers to building there trucks using various engines. They eventually settled with Dodge engines and Dodge dealers started to sell the trucks. The company was founded in 1927 and lasted till 1929.
HUDSON 1930-1957

Joseph L. Hudson, the founder of Hudson’s department store, founded Hudson Motor car company with eight other businessmen on February 20, 1909. The company made Hudson cars and other brand cars from 1909 to 1954 in Detroit Michigan. Hudson merged with Nash-Kelvinator Corporation in 1954 and the Hudson name continued until 1957.
LASALLE 1930-1940

From 1927 to 1940, LaSalle was produced by General Motors Corporation. The car was named after Rene-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, a French explorer. The designer of the car is Harley Earl. “Gee, our old LaSalle ran great. Those were the days.” was the closing line from the song Those Were The Days, which appeared as the theme song in the television show All In The Family.
LINCOLN 1930-1970

In the year 1917, Henry Leland and Wilfred Leland formed the Lincoln Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan. Henry Leland was the former manager of the Cadillac division of General Motors. Leland’s longtime hero was Abraham Lincoln and was his inspiration to name the company after him. After World War I, the Lincoln company started to create luxury automobiles. In 1922, the Ford company purchased the Lincoln Motor Company.
MARMON 1930-1933

In 1851, the parent company of the Marmon produced flour grinding equipment. By the late 19th century it expanded into other machinery. Marmon Motor Company was founded in 1902 by Howard Marmon. The owner was Nordyke-Marmon and Company of Indianapolis, Indiana. Marmon was noted for introducing the rear-view mirror, V16 engine, and manufacturing the auto with aluminum. In 1933, Marmon stop production due to the Great Depression but continued to manufacture components for other auto and truck manufacturers. Also in 1933, Marmon merged with Colonel Arthur Herrington and the new company was called Marmon-Herrington.
NASH 1930-1957

In 1916, Nash Motors was founded by Charles W. Nash, who was the former president of General Motors. The company was based in Kenosha, Wisconsin from 1916 to 1937. Nash became a part of a division of Nash-Kelvinator Corporation from 1937 to 1954 and continued till 1957. Unitary construction (1941), heating and ventilation systems (1938), and seat belts (1950) was pioneered by Nash. They also manufacture cars in the compact (1950), subcompact (1970), and muscle car (1957) was pioneered by the Nash company.
OLDSMOBILE 1930-1957

Ransom E. Olds founded the Olds Motor Works in 1897 in Lasing, Michigan. This is were the Oldsmobile were first manufactured. In 1901, they produced the first high-volume gasoline-powered automobile. In 1899 the company was sold and renamed Olds Motor works and the company moved to a new plant in Detroit. The company had a whole line of models ready for mass production around March 1901. All the prototypes were destroyed when to plant caught on fire by a mistake from a worker. The only prototype that survived while being pushed out by two workers during a fire was the Curve Dash. The production of the Curve Dash continued in newly built plant.
