    Exceptional silver vesta case by S. Mordan & Co with enamelled train ticket of the Great Eastern Railway return from St Pancras to Newmarket First Class on side. The enamelling is in perfect condition no chips or scratches. The lid is not sprung but works perfectly with S.M&Co stamp marks for Sampson Mordan and sterling silver hallmarks for 1892. There is one tiny pin head dent in the back of the vesta but hardly noticeable, please see photos.  The vesta measures 57mm x 31mm x 10mm and weighs 43gms.

    Sampson Mordan, Snr was born in 1790 and patented his ever-pointed propelling pencil on 20th December 1822. He entered his first silver mark on 20th June 1823 and another with his partner Gabriel Riddle on 30th April 1824. Mordan and Riddle had their premises at 22 Castle Street, City Rd.,where S. Mordan & Co were first listed as “patent ever-pointed pencil and portable pen manufacturers. After the fathers death in 1843 his two sons continued the buisenss excelling in quality silver and gold items many novelties and other exquisite items suppling silver articles to retailers including Asprey & Sons,  The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd, Leuchars, Thornhill etc.
