The Hope Diamond Value is definitely very difficult to determine since it is unquestionably the most famous diamond in the world. It is also the most expensive diamond in the planet. We do know that many other least famous diamonds that are much smaller in size have sold up to tens of millions of dollars. Because of it long well known history and it’s incredibly large size I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hope Diamond were to sell up to $500,000,000. Yes, that’s half a billion dollars!
The Hope Diamond wasn’t always named the Hope Diamond. When it was originally discovered in the 17th Century it was referred to as the Tevernier Diamond. It was named Tavernier because of the French missionary who purchased the diamond.
Tavernier purchased the diamond from a slave who lived in India. Originally, Tavernier thought the diamond was a sapphire due to its large size and rare blue color for a diamond. Later Tavernier realized it was indeed a very rare diamond and today it is still the rarest blue diamond in existence.
Originally the Hope Diamond measured approximately 115 carats when it was first discovered. After several owners and several cuts to the diamond over the years, the Hope Diamond today measures only 42 carats. Which is about three times smaller than when it was originally discovered.
Today the Hope Diamond is the rarest and most famous Blue Diamond known to man kind. It currently belongs to the Smithsonian and the Diamond is not for sale and probably never will be. However, experts estimate that if the Hope Diamond were to sell in today’s market it could realize up to $500,000,000 making it the Worlds Most Valuable Diamond!
