I bought this NCR cash register from the Avalon, Catalina Island, California Fire Department. They discovered it in the main air ventilation shaft for the historic Avalon Casino which was built in the 1920′s. They bought it from the casino, had it in their fire department station and I bought it from them. The machine was not originally at the casino when it was built, but likely was used in a gift shop or elsewhere there, perhaps during the 1960s. It also spent time in Catalina’s Hill House, a historic landmark. I have an email which confirms this, and that will be available to the winner of the auction.
The register is a model 543 I believe, see the photos of the paperwork to confirm this as I am NOT a cash register expert as I know many of you are. It appears to be in wonderful original shape, unrestored, and complete as far as I know. All the drawers open but only from the back at this point as the main crank bolt has sheared off and non-functional. The hand crank is there, but will need a new bolt and repair. The mechanism seems free though, it can be turned a bit by inserting the crank shaft. The shaft handle is OK, only the inner-bolt has sheared off. Everything else seems likely to work, but as it has not been tried there may be unforseen issues.
The finish is original, and the top drawer if filled with keys, don’t know if any work the register or not. This register is being sold AS-IS, there are NO returns. I have tried to describe any problem in detail though and feel that I have presented a fair description of the overall condition of the register.

In addition, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SHIPPING OR PICKUP. Local pick-up is obviously the best. If you are out of the area, you need to arrange for the shipper to come get it, I can only assist by being available for scheduling. This machine weighed 396 pounds when ferried across from Catalina Island, and it still weighs 396 pounds, so plan ahead.
Great machine. Needs some fixin, or if you want, a full restoration.
