This auction is for an exceedingly rare Original Chinese “Order of the Precious Brilliant Golden Grain” 1st or 2nd Class breast star / badge. This beautifully made, heavy silver badge with gold gilt finish was an award from Nationalist China. The award was instituted on July 29th, 1912 by President Yuan Shih Kai for outstanding civil merit. This gilt silver badge is heavily decorated with enameling, halved pearls and a center stone (maybe a ruby or glass?) This fine badge is signed on the back, measures 3 3/4″ across and weighs a heavy 143.7 grams. The enameling is all intact, although there is some minor crazing in the enamel on some of the rays. Four of the halved pearls are missing. There is some wear to the gilding on the silver and some of largest points are bent (would be easy for a silversmith to straighten). The pin is missing, but both prongs and the loop are intact. This is such a rare medal and we are pleased to be able to offer it for sale.
