Someone paid an astonishing $103,million dollars for a man made figure, making it the worlds most expensive statue. I personally appreciate art and collectibles, however, it was very difficult for me to  completely understand why someone would pay $103,000,000 for a modern day man made statue. But apparently, many collectors felt it was worth this much as there were several bidders for this statue when it went up for auction. The Walking Man Statue titled “L’Homme Qui Marche” was offered at an auction conducted by Sotheby’s on February 03, 2010.

The original estimated price was said to be somewhere around $25 million but the final realized price of $103 Million just blew everyone away.

Apparently sculptures made by Alberto Giacometti are considered masterpieces and this specific statue is his finest work.

Giacometti has created some of the worlds most impressive and artistic bronze statues and this one was no exception. However, most of his other  statues are much smaller in size and the L’Homme Qui Marche Statue is his largest man sized masterpiece so far.

The L’Homme Qui Marche was skillfully made in 1961 and has been off the market for over 20 years. This unique example was made as a symbolic piece representing humankind and therefore, that’ why it has the impression of a real man.

Sculptures and statues have always captured a lot of attention from many collectors and spectators around the world. Despite other collectibles markets struggling, the sculptures market seems to be doing the complete opposite. Some of the price estimates for rare statues are completely being demolished, and new records seem to be set when rare sculptures appear in the market.

Finally, I have always appreciated art and collectibles however, the price that this statue realized has definitely given me a different outlook and appreciation for man made sculptures and hopefully, this article will do the same for you.
