    Description and Image By: motoexotica

An all-new body and chassis with perimeter “Guard Beam” frame and all-coil suspension replacing the previous leaf springs highlighted the 1961 full-sized Oldsmobile’s, which were joined by the new compact F-85. Wheelbases remained the same as in 1960, but overall length and width were reduced slightly. All full-sized Oldsmobile’s were now powered by the 394 cubic-inch Rocket V8 with the Dynamic 88 getting a two-barrel, 250 hp version that used regular gas, while the Super 88 was powered by a four-barrel “Ultra High Compression” 394 Skyrocket V8 rated at 325 hp. The Skyrocket engine was available as an extra-cost option on the Dynamic 88. A new three-speed “Roto” Hydra-matic transmission that was smaller and lighter than the previous four-speed unit was introduced as an option.
The car you see here is a 77,000 original mile car that is finished in its original colors of Autumn Mist with a Provincial White top. The car is loaded with vintage extras inside which are really cool. These include an under dash A/C which blows cold, cruise control, wiper delay and an Equus information center that displays temperature, rpm, oil pressure, speed and a host of other read outs.

The paint on the car appears to be all original and finished in Autumn Mist with the Provincial White top. The paint isn’t perfect and is showing some age but is in very good overall condition. There is a scratch to the rear trunk lid and the paint to the roof is thin in a few places. The original dealer sticker is still on the rear of the car showing that the car was originally purchased from Money Chevrolet in Hill City, Kansas! Both front and rear bumpers are in great condition and show only minimal pitting and scratches. Nothing major.

Inside, the seats appear to have been reupholstered and look great. The carpet has also been replaced along with the door panels which are all in very good condition. The dash does show some buckling. The car does have the underdash A/C system which blows cold with no problems.

Under the hood, the 394 Cu In V8 runs great and is extremely clean. The car does have power steering as well as an aftermarket A/C compressor. The motor starts with no issues and runs down the road extremely smooth with no problems. The original wheels and hubcaps look very good and are wrapped with newer radial tires. In the trunk, there is a full size spare which appears to be original for the car as well as a jack and original lining.

The underside is very clean and solid with no rot that we have seen. There isn’t any undercoating under the car which means no surprises or hidden runs. The mileage on the car currently shows 77,731 and is said to be original for the car. VIN number is 612K07660 and the car is being sold on a clean Oklahoma title which shows date first sold in April 19th, 1961.
