1965 Chevrolet Impala

First, in 1965 the Chevrolet Impala was introduced as Chevy’s new big car with an elegant and sporty design. It had a unique upholstery, wood grained accents on the dashboard and pulls on the insides of the doors. This model featured the spinner wheel covers from the Impala SS and the SS emblem was used in the Super Sport’s blackout rear trim strip below the triple taillights. Engine choices remained wide with up to 10 options and this also included the famous 409. Engine choices included the inline six-cylinder as well as the small-block and big-block V8s. The 409-cubic-inch “W” engine was discontinued early in the 1965 model year, so early-production 1965 got the 409, as well as 1/10 of 1% had the 396 CID big-block.   Around the mid-year in 1965, Chevy decided to try the a more luxury Impala. This idea added a $200 Caprice price option for the Super Sport Sedan. This included a more luxury look to the interior with special trim and a more heavy duty frame.  The Impala would be the #2-selling convertible in the U.S. in 1966, with 38,000 sold, but it sold more cars than ever before in 1965 with more than 2.4 million cars sold setting an all-time industry sales record of more than a million units.
