This is a fantastic piece of vintage Railroad history. It came out of the Salina, Kansas Union Pacific Station, but it could be used by any Railway company. Not sure if it was hooked up to a track switch that would actuate a relay inside and drop the signal flag to show traffic coming. The bottom of the signal poles are marked: UP East, UP West and Frisco. These were sold to all Railways and would have their own names in these.
This was made by the Union Switch & Signal Company and has their nameplate on the front. The case meaures 16 1/4″ wide, 13 1/4″ tall and 6 1/2″ deep. It is missing the front glass, but that would be easy and cheap to replace. It looks like someone started to refinish the case. The relays are heavy, it weighs just over 20 pounds without packing. Missing the back wood door or panel. A very rare, early piece of equipment!
