Civil war united states marine corp campaign medal – numbered and identified This is the holy grail of all united states campaign medals. Not only is this rim numbered (51) but it is also rim impressed with his name, “andrew leslie”. This comes with research, copies of his file, etc. He served in the marines from 1863 – 1867, then enlisted in the army and served with the 18th infantry from 1870 – 1876. He received his civil war campaign medal, according to records we have, 15 april 1910. The original ribbon, i am sure, fell apart, because he appears to have worn this. It was replaced with a red, white and blue ribbon which is also in awful condition but this is the way it turned up – out of the wood work. I originally bought this medal which was retrieved out of the trash after a house sale some years ago. I re-acquired the medal a couple of years ago. I think it is probably safe to say, for many collectors, this may be the only chance to own this campaign medal in your life time!! Less than 200 were issued and by most estimates, about a dozen or so are known.
