Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)

It is the original back portion of C-3PO’s left hand.  During post-production on Star Wars, it was determined that shots were needed that showed Luke, R2-D2 and C-3PO in Luke’s landspeeder, racing across the Tatooine landscape. A miniature landspeeder including the three characters was built in 1/24th scale. The model builders requested a piece of the C-3PO costume as reference for the metallic finish. The costume shop in the UK sent this piece of the left hand from one of the costumes used in production. There were several costumes used for different purposes during filming, so there is no way of knowing which sequences this piece was used in.

This piece of C-3PO comes from Joe Johnston’s personal collection of film memorabilia. It’s been kept in pristine condition since Joe acquired it, but does have a few scratches here and there that occurred during filming.

It measures approx. 5″x6″ (approximately 5″ across at its widest point by approx. 6″ at its longest length). It is approx. 1.5″ tall. It’s basically the size of a large hand (without fingers).

    Material: Fiberglass

Joe Johnston was the VFX Art Director on Stars Wars Episodes IV, V and VI. He designed most of the spaceships and vehicles, some of the characters, and storyboarded most of the sequences that involve VFX.

A few of his creations include: X-Wings, Y-Wings, Tie fighters, the Millenium Falcon, the Sandcrawler, the Death Star, Yoda, Ewoks, the Landspeeder, the Snow Walker (AT-AT), Cloud City, the Rocket Bikes and many, many more!

The winner of this auction will receive a COA from Joe Johnston himself, with a summary of the item, guarantee of authenticity and statement that it’s from his personal collection (signed and dated).
