An extremely rare Creagh-Osborne Type 5/17 aircraft compass, as fitted to thousands of British WW1 aircraft of the 1917-18 period including Sopwith Pup, Sopwith Camel, Sopwith Snipe, Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter and SE5a. This is a highly collectible early aircraft compass, that could easily be used in an authentic restoration project. It is in original unrestored condition complete with compass adjusters, light housing and the shock absorbed mounting ring.
There is no fluid inside, but the interior of the compass is in good condition considering the age. I borrowed a Geiger counter to test for radium paint and am pleased to report that this compass is not radioactive.
