This is a very rare Presidential appointment by John Adams, with a very large and bold signature by the president.
This appointment was for Israel Whelan of Pennsylvania as Purveyor Public Supplies, a newly created office in 1800. Whelan later became instrumental in getting supplies to Lewis & Clark for their expedition.
This appointment is in very good condition, with some foxing and folds, but all of the handwriting is quite clear. The signatures of Adams and acting Secretary of State Charles Lee are particularly bold. The seal is faded, but still present.
This document is guaranteed to be authentic and would make for a great addition to any collection.
