The Rolex logo is one of the most prestigious emblems in society today. The brand is a form of indicating your social status. Therefore, someone having a Rolex watch is usually assumed that they are financially well. The Rolex company was founded by Alfred Davis and Hans Wilsdorf from Germany in 1905. The company was first called Wilsdorf and Davis. They started making high end wristwatches and selling them to jewelers. The original watches had the stamp W&D. The jewelers would then put their own brand on them as well. They would then resell them to the public.
Wilsdorf and Davis continued supplying jewelers with high end watches for many years. The Rolex name was then branded in 1908 in Switzerland. The Rolex name was then registered in November 1915. And in 1919 the name was changed to the Rolex Watch Company. Today, it is now only called Rolex. Interestingly the company has never been sold or it has never been a added as a stock company even though it would probably qualify.
