Star Wars: Episode I – Phantoms of Menace SCREEN USED resin stunt Lightsaber used by Qui-Gon Jinn – Liam Neeson Up for auction is a Screen Used STUNT Lightsaber used by Qui-Gon-Jinn. This light saber was used by actor Liam Neeson in Star Wars: Episode I – Phantoms of Menace, specifically for the fight near the end of the film with Darth Maul when Qui-Gon is killed by phantom Menace. Lightsabers are easily the most iconic props from the entire Star Wars saga, and screen used examples from any of the films are tremendously hard to come by. While a handful of light saber props from the Prequel films have surfaced in private hands, almost all of them are simply the resin hilt with their hallmark protruding threaded rod; they do not have their corresponding screen used blade that would screw onto the hilt. As most of the aluminum blades made for the production of Star Wars Episodes I & II were destroyed from dueling or discarded after filming, it is incredibly rare to find an example of a stunt lightsaber prop that is complete. In addition to the tremendous rarity of this piece as a complete bladed fighting light saber. This complete stunt resin lightsaber hilt was hand-painted in black with silver accents, and a central red switch. It comes with a painted aluminum tube with protective plastic covering attached, as configured for the filming of the fight sequence. The threaded rod acts as a rigging system to attach and easily replace the correctly fitted corresponding aluminum blades that would later be digitally animated over in post production to create the famous glowing special effects of the ignited green light saber blade. This rigging system was created so that only the blade would need to be replaced after suffering damage from on-set dueling. This lightsaber was acquired from one of the stunt crew members ( Mark Newman ) who worked on the film. It comes with a COA.
