This listing is for an 18th century very fancy lock, key, and door piece. The lock, key, etc. has been polished and was at one time in a museum collection. The lock is bronze over the iron mechanism. The bronze has a pair of engraved angels over the key hole. The key hole has a carved silver escutcheon. The four corners or spandrels have open worked silver. The lock has a fancy turner and a large key.
The lock measures just less than 9 by 5 inches 22.5 by 12.5 cm. The key is 5 inches or 12.7 cm long. Inside the lock mechanism is a museum number “37-146N”. The lock also comes with the part that fits on the door jam. This is all bronze and engraved with vines and berries. Besides the latch bolt, which turns by the fancy handle, there are two dead bolts; one turns with the key and the other with a knob. Please excuse my inadequate description of this lock and rely on the photographs to better give you an idea of what this lock looks like.
It is in excellent condition, and very handsome.
