From its founding by Harry F. Sinclair in 1916, Sinclair has grown to become one of the largest and most respected oil companies in the United States.

Fate was scarcely subtle with young Harry Sinclair. It caused him to lose the drug store in a speculation at age twenty, just as an oil boom enveloped the community. Freed of his confining inheritance, penniless, product of the schools of frontier Kansas, Sinclair read correctly the juxtaposition of his stars and attributes, and headed for the oil fields. Thus began one of the great careers of the American petroleum industry.

In September 1919, Harry F. Sinclair restructured Sinclair Oil and Refining Corporation, Sinclair Gulf Corporation, and 26 other related entities into Sinclair Consolidated Oil Corporation.[4] In 1932, this new entity was renamed Consolidated Oil Corporation. In 1943, it was renamed Sinclair Oil Corporation.

The beginning of a great companyThe Sinclair Oil & Refining Corporation was established on May 1, 1916. He established his headquarters in New York. Harry Sinclair himself still lacked three months of being forty years old. He and his company had joined the big powers of the oil industry.
