Previously unseen & very rare Japanese hand painted COMPLETE MAP OF ASIA, 1780. Map measures 20 X 28 inches (open) and closes to 10 1/4 X 13 inches. A fine early Japanese manuscript map which includes: JAPAN, CHINA, TAIWAN, KINGDOM OF JOESON (Choson or Korea), KINGDOM OF RYUKYU (Okinawa), EZO or UNDEVELOPED HOKKAIDO (seen as very large in proportion to other areas on this map), SAKHALIN, KUNASHIRI, ETORUFU, and one of the earliest depictions of ALASKA I have seen on a Japanese manuscript map. Fine colors, well painted, generally good shape for the age & GUARANTEED AUTHENTIC. NOTE: Scans #1, & #2 were made of photographs taken of the map and appear a bit dark, while scans #3 through #12 were made by placing the map directly onto the scanner and more accurately show the correct colors.
