This is an example of us patent number 76,051 granted to Solon Rust and E. M. Chapin on Mar 31, 1868. The patent is for a way to adjust the fence so that it remains parallel with the plough’s skate. It is very dirty and has not been cleaned. Toe is marked UNION FACTORY H. CHAPIN No. 23. It looks like it has a finish or stain on it that appears to be factory applied. It is missing the blades and the locking screw for the depth stop on the side. The central adjusting rod appears to be boxwood or apple and turns easily in, the outer threads need to be cleaned before it will turn beyond where it is now. Some rust on the skate and the arms, but this should clean into a very nice piece that will certainly be a great example of a rare plow plane.
