Shown is a very rare BRONZE Type 3A, MILLER’S PATENT No.42 ADJUSTABLE PLOW PLANE (1875).  This No.42 is a Type 3A as evidenced by its gun metal body and wrap around fence, its small size Brass cutter clamp/chip deflector, its flat top cutter locking screw with round head screw in the center, and Brass depth gauge nut with a beaded center. Its one pin Rosewood handle is stamped with “Miller’s Patent June 28, 1870” on the left side, and is in near mint condition with NO cracks, repairs or owner’s name stamped on it like many you see on eBay. It retains nearly all its original finish (See Pic). The two line “STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO.”tm is stamped on the skate (See Pics). The pre-slitter Type 3A No.42 was only manufactured in this style in 1875. In addition to the Bronze body and wrap around fence it comes with the optional Japanned shorter plow fence and filletster bed. Original Japanning on each is roughly 98% intact. Also included is a match blade (tongue blade) which has owner’s name “ADAM” stamped on back side (Not Shown). The Type 3A was only made this way in 1875 so this one is an extremely rare and collectible No.42 plow. This plane is as found, and has not been messed with.
