Description by seller: “Very rare museum quality 1945 Akeley ‘pancake’ hand cranked and/or motor advanced 35mm silent movie film camera offered for sale at a no reserve auction. Purchased from a gentleman who bought it from the government after ww2. It appears to have been used during the war, but not abused. It still retains 95% of its original paint, comes with it’s original tripod, 6 film magazines, 3 set of lenses, and it’s original packing cases. It looks like you could clean the lenses,oil the mechanisms,load the film, and start shooting again”.

Description by seller: “Shanghai 58-i , chinese leica copy, with correct matching 50mm f/3.5 lens and correct leather case. Unlike the details in st denny’s book, this has no strap lugs and according to several collectors that have contacted me it may be a prototype body which would explain the difference, it’s certainly an unusual variation. Serial no 5801328, made in 1958, very rare, less than 2000 made. This is the first version of the shanghai 58,with the dioptre adjustment and with the four screw accessory shoe”.
