    Description by seller: “Antique original cast iron Mechanical Bank. The  bank is being listed with no reserve. This is the “ARTILLERY BANK”  Mechanical Bank manufactured by the J.& E. Stevens Co., Cromwell CT. This bank was designed by Charles Shepard and Peter Adams and was one of the more popular of the mechanical banks. There are no cracks, breaks or other damage and has excellent original paint. The bank was first manufactured by the Shepard Hardware Co. and then later by the J.& E. Stevens Co. The “Artillery” was patented May 31, 1892”.

    Definitely a cool collectible capturing the number one spot for the highest sold Mechanical Bank on eBay in the month of October 2013.

    Description by seller: “Original J & E Stevens Co cast iron mechanical bank: Dimensions:  9 7/8″ long  x 4.25″ wide x  4 7/8″ tall. Made by the J & E Stevens Co., Cromwell, Conn. circa 1901 (the markings would have been on the metal cap for the lg. hole on bottom–it is missing). The J & E Stevens company was formed in 1843 and began making mechanical banks in 1869”.

    Description by seller: “Beautiful example of an antique Always Did ‘Spise a Mule Black Americana mechanical bank. Manufactured by J.E. Stevens Co., in Cromwell, CT.  Patent Date APR. 22, 1879. All original condition, no cracks or repairs of any kind.  Mechanically perfect, works flawlessly. Mechanical Bank measures 9 ½” long, by 6 ¼” tall and depicts a Mule and a young Black Boy with a stick in his hand“.
